John Denis Martin Nunn (2o1?)

John Denis Martin Nunn, né le 25 avril 1955 à Londres il est un des meilleurs joueurs et problèmistes d'échecs britanniques, excellent solutionniste, grand maître international depuis 1978, il termina 2ème du championnat du monde en 1978, champion de Grande-Bretagne en 1980, il a figuré à plusieurs reprises dans les années 1980 dans le top 10 mondial. | Il a été trois fois champion du monde en résolution de problèmes d'échecs.
Il est auteur du très bon livre sur la composition : Solving in Style (1985), il est aussi éditeur de livres d'échecs, titulaire d'un doctorat en mathématiques.

John Nunn a 4 ans lorsque son père lui apprend le jeu d'échecs, où il montre des aptitudes précoces.
Il a 9 ans quand il gagne le championnat de Londres des moins de 12 ans, son premier succès d'une longue série en championnat junior britannique.
En 1967, à 12 ans, il remporte le championnat britannique des moins de 14 ans, et de nombreux autres titres jusqu'au championnat d'Europe junior qu'il emporte en 1975.

Vasja Pirc (Pronounced "Peertz") played in the heyday of the Hypermodern revolution.
Like many interwar artistic movements like the Bauhaus or the Dada movement, he imbibed revolutionary artistic ideas.
The main idea of the Hypermoderns was to undermine the center from the flanks.
Pirc evolved a system against 1. e4 that starts with 1...d6, followed by 2...Nf6 and 3...g6. It is very similar to the King's Indian Defense.
Here one of the top grandmasters of the 1980's, John Nunn, surveys a collection of ideas from the 20th century.
A very useful book for the "Sons of Vasja Pirc" who want to find old ideas or new ideas, either for postal or over the board play.

The Benoni for the TOURNAMENT PLAYER 1982 John Nunn (149.pages)

The predecessor to Psakhis's work, this excellent work is no less than you would expect from John Nunn.
Naturally it's a bit out of date now (as well as out of print), but much of the study in the less fashionable lines is still worth a look.
