| NEWS IDEAS In The PIRC DEFENCE 1994 John Nunn ( 144.pages) Vasja Pirc (Pronounced "Peertz") played in the heyday of the Hypermodern revolution. Like many interwar artistic movements like the Bauhaus or the Dada movement, he imbibed revolutionary artistic ideas. The main idea of the Hypermoderns was to undermine the center from the flanks. Pirc evolved a system against 1. e4 that starts with 1...d6, followed by 2...Nf6 and 3...g6. It is very similar to the King's Indian Defense. Here one of the top grandmasters of the 1980's, John Nunn, surveys a collection of ideas from the 20th century. A very useful book for the "Sons of Vasja Pirc" who want to find old ideas or new ideas, either for postal or over the board play.
